Walk September 6 at Garfield Farm Museum
CAMPTON HILLS, IL- On Saturday, September 6, from 9 am until 12 noon, Garfield Farm Museum will hold a prairie walk. This will be a thorough walk looking at the season’s results on in the oak savanna, the sedge meadow, the Mill Creek Prairie and the impact of the new bridge construction along LaFox Road that is altering the traditional hiking access to the prairie. This is an “off trail” hike of moderate exertion. The rains of the late spring and of August have caused a number of the later season plants to tower above the hikers’ heads. Some plants that are normally not observed in particular areas are thriving because of the increase water regime. Hikers will also see the impact of last year’s clearing in the oak savanna and better perceive the need for other areas to be cleared of invasive buckthorn and honeysuckle. Appropriate foot gear, long pants favorite mosquito repellant and hat are strongly suggested. There is a $6 donation for the hike.
