News from Garfield Farm |
There are openings still available for the Sunday September 5th Prairie Walk at Garfield Farm Museum to be held from 9 am - 12 Noon. Just as the look of a prairie changes over the years as restoration is undertaken, nature also dictates the prairie's appearance. The peculiar weather of this season has prolonged blooming, delayed blooming and in other cases sped up the blooming of these plants. Veterans of these hikes will notice this difference and be intrigued by the vagaries of nature.
Furthermore, many of the plants' insect visitors, especially butterflies, have been few in number. Over the last several days, their numbers are increasing and with favorable wind conditions, the largest butterflies of the season should be visible.
To attend the hike call (630) 584-8485 or email info@garfieldfarm.org. There is $7 donation for the hike. It will be conducted by museum biologist Jerome Johnson. Appropriate shoes and clothing for hiking through tall grasses and plants is recommended. Garfield Farm Museum is 5 miles west of Geneva, IL off IL Rt. 38 on Garfield Road.
