Museum will host a 19th Century Photography lecture and demonstration
on Sunday, May 15th, at 2 pm. The lecture, given by museum
volunteer, Chris Olsen, will cover the development and practices of
19th century photography. Starting with the French inventor
Nicéphore Niépce's work in the early 1800s and ending in
the last quarter of the century with the invention of the gelatin dry
plate process, the lecture will include a broad review of the
chemistry, historical and cultural implications of photography, as well
as period and modern artifacts and processes.
Chris Olsen has been a practicing 19th century
photographer for a number of years. He uses several historical
processes including Wet Plate Collodion and the Daguerreotype
processes. He occupies his time when not photographing the world around
him as a Particle Accelerator Operator at Fermilab in Batavia.
There will be a $6 donation for the lecture and
refreshments will be provided. Reservations are required and can be
