Fiber Spinning 101 and 201 Classes May 4th

CAMPTON HILLS, IL: On Saturday May 4th at 10am and 1pm, Garfield Farm Museum will offer classes on fiber Spinning 101 (10am) and Spinning 201 (1pm). Julia Bizub of Wisconsin, a museum volunteer, will conduct both sessions.

Spinning 101 will include a brief history of spinning and processing techniques along with advances in the technology of spinning, different types of fiber that can (and have) been spun, and different breeds of sheep and their uses. During this discussion some of the techniques will be demonstrated.

Spinning 201 is limited to 15 students as participants will learn basic spinning methods. Beginning spinning class will get students started on their way to making yarn. No experience is necessary and this class is also open to those who are looking to improve their skill. The class will work with prepared fiber, which will be provided. Anyone who has a spinning wheel in working order or a drop spindle may bring it to the class. There will be some spindles to practice on and some available for purchase.

The program will held at the museum’s visitors’ center, the Atwell Burr House, located at 2N930 Garfield Road in Campton Hills, IL. The session are $30 each and will last about 2 hours. For reservations call 630 584-8485 or contact info@garfieldfarm.org.
