Our Favorite Things Walks and Talks April 23 and 24 Campton Hills, IL: This
weekend April 23 and 24, board members of Garfield Farm
Museum will present "Our Favorite Things Walks and
Talks" reflecting interests that they especially enjoy
at the museum. On Saturday April 23 at 9:30 am executive
director and museum biologist Jerome Johnson will lead a
hike through the Garfield Harley Ephemeral Pond and
Woods looking for the first flowers of spring. On
Sunday, April 24, starting at 1 pm, members of the
Garfield Heritage Society Board will speak on their
favorite topics, the history of the farm, the animals on
the farm, and textiles.
Donna Neiler, board president will introduce the Sunday afternoon with a historic overview of the farm. Trustee Sharon Polifrone, violinist with the Lyric Opera, will talk on the museum's historic breeds of farm animals. Trustee Christa Thurman Sala, retired curator of textiles at the Art Institute of Chicago, will discuss textiles, fibers and weaves. These three presentations will be followed by light refreshments and a tour of the farm and tavern. A donation of $6 per adult and $3 for each child under 16 years of age is requested. Participants for Saturday's wildflower walk should wear long pants and walking shoes for wet conditions along the pond edge. Binoculars for birds are also suggested.
